Illustrious Headquarters of the Official Association of Pharmacists of Malaga

Málaga · 2019 · ARCHITECTURE

The new Pharmaceutical Association’s building, revolves around a central courtyard, which serves as the core of the building. Starting from this idea of a closed block in which the courtyard is the protagonist of association’s activity, the building is perforated and fragmented on the ground floor to give rise to the different accesses of the building, as well as to preserve the pre-existing trees of the plot.
The initial volume also evolves with 20º turns towards a more complex volumetry, looking for the best orientation and the best views, due to the hostility of the main avenue located in front of the facade.
It aspires to be a reinterpretation of Mediterranean cubic volumetry.

Information of interest
"The first news I had about the creation of our Official College of Pharmacists, burned down on July 20, 1936 and of which there was no documentation left, I found in the Library of the University of Malaga, Chair of History, where more than fifteen thousand volumes of the Malaga Society of Sciences are in deposit. Among them we can find the copies of the "Revista La Farmacia Española" corresponding to the years 1877 to 1908, although it was published by the Pharmaceutical College of Madrid between 1869 and 1931. In the issue corresponding to 17/070/1.878, on page 666, in the section of "Chronicles" it says verbatim: "New College.- The pharmacists of Malaga have recently founded a College similar to those that operate in Madrid, Barcelona, Granada and Seville".
